Maurice A. Ferré, the first Hispanic mayor of Miami, was a visionary figure in politics for decades. From his seat in the Florida House of Representatives in 1966, Ferré entered local politics as a commissioner of the City of Miami and then served as the city's mayor for six terms, from 1973 to 1985.
History of the Institute
The Maurice A. Ferré Institute for Civic Leadership in the Green School was launched in 2021 through an endowed gift from the family of Mayor Maurice A. Ferré (June 23, 1935 - September 19, 2019).
Mission and Vision
The mission of the Maurice A. Ferré Institute for Civic Leadership is to advance civic leadership and engagement, social justice, and inclusive civil infrastructure. The vision of the Ferré Institute is to impact positive social change through its innovative academic, research, and community-oriented programs.
